Insert the Fate/hollow ataraxia disc into the DVD-ROM drive.
The automatic installer should start up. If it doesn't, execute the setup.exe
in the setup
folder in disk.
Depending on your system, you might have to switch to Japanese locale or use [Locale Emulator] (or AppLocale on pre-windows 10 systems) for the installation to proceed correctly.
If you're having trouble installing the game (i.e. locale problems), you can just unzip/unpack the .iso file into a folder name of your choosing.
You won't get any shortcut icons (you can easily create your own), nor an item in the "Add or Remove Programs".
If you want to play the game on Android devices with [Kirikiroid2] apply the following steps as well:
Android
folder (not the folder itself) to the game's folder.Note: save files formed on PC will work on Android but save files formed on Android won't work on PC. PC saves are located inside the
FateHA_Savedata
folder, while Android saves are located inside theFateHA_Savedata_krkrz
folder. So if you started on PC and want to move to android, copy your save files to the Android save folder.
Open Control Panel from the Settings in the start menu and select Add or Remove Programs.
Select Fate/Hollow ataraxia and press Uninstall.
Afterwards follow the instructions.
Note: if you did not install the game, you can just delete the game folder (if you chose the save folder to be your game folder, your saves will be deleted as well).
Mandatory patches:
patch.xp3
and patch2.xp3
Those are the official patches for FHA by type-moon.
patch3.xp3
This is the core patch for the game laying the foundation for the following patches.
It replaces the "pre-rendered" font system in the previous English patch with dynamic font rendering, which means you can change the font in the menu to anything you like (if you do, make sure it's a Unicode font to avoid question marks appearing in the game). The default font is true and tested.
It also adds a couple of scenes from the vita which are spoiler so won't be expanded upon here (check the forum thread for more details inside a proper spoiler tag).
In addition, a new Track Girls route for the Hanafuda mini-game has been ported from the PSP game:
Fly Away! Toraburu Hanafuda Travel Journal.
The following patches are optional, and even if you add them you can turn on/off all of their features via in-game switches:
patch_lang_english.xp3
This is the English translation patch.
Thanks to Kotonoha the translation was vastly edited and a translation for the H-alt scene from the vita was added (requires vita patch).
Another addition are optionally subbed OPs (opening movies).
patch_voice.xp3
Adds Japanese voice acting to the game. This also includes voice acting for the mini-games.
Voice is available while playing the game in both English text and Japanese text.
You can adjust the overall voice volume in the config menu and also per character under the "voice" button in the config menu.
patch_vita.xp3
Adds vita content: H-alt scene (an alternative, PG-rated scene to the hentai scene originally in the game), censored images for H (hentai) content, additional wallpapers, new ending credits, new about menu, and a music track of the new OPs to the music menu (vita OPs are in a separate patch).
The new wallpapers are unlocked when you reach certain parts of the game (in the same manner you would if you played the vita version). If you already a have a save file you'll automatically unlock all the relevant vita wallpapers you deserve when you launch the game after applying the patch.
patch_op.xp3
Adds vita OP to the game and the movie menu.
patch_decensor.xp3
Adds decensored images for the H-scenes. Not included with this package.
Can be separately downloaded from [Thorny Rose Studios].
Depending on your system, you might have to switch to Japanese locale or use [Locale Emulator] (or AppLocale on pre-windows 10 systems).
Execute FateFD.exe
in the installation folder (or click the desktop/startup icons).
You will be prompted to select the folder containing the save folder. Select the folder and press OK.
Alternatively, you can press Cancel and the save folder will be placed in the installation folder.
Note: The save folder name is
fateha_savedata
.

This section will explain the different options in the config menu.
Unread message display interval
Move the tab left or right to change the display interval of one letter of the unread message.
Moving it to the left will shorten the display interval and display characters at high speed.
Conversely, moving it to the right will display characters slower.
The number displayed represents the concrete display interval (in milliseconds).
Already read message display interval
As above, change the display interval of read messages rather than unread messages.
With the exception of being applied to already read messages, the mechanism is the same
as unread messages.
Automatic page switching time
Changes the page switching wait time of the auto-read mode.
Moving to the left shortens the waiting time and moves immediately to the next page.
Moving to the right side, the waiting time will be long, suited for slow readers.
The displayed number represents the specific waiting time (in milliseconds).
Skipping read scenes
By turning it on, you can skip the scenes you have already seen.
It is possible to progress through the game more quickly this way.
Confirm skipping
When turned on, asks before skipping when entering a read scene.
It is a useful function when you want to see specific scenes without skipping.
Of course, such confirmation is only relevant when skipping read scenes is ON.
Message fast forward key setting
Select the key for fast forward skipping.
It will skip even unread text, so please use with care.
By default it is assigned to the Ctrl key.
Master volume
Change overall volume.
Move to the left to make it smaller, and move to the right to make it louder.
BGM volume
Change the volume of BGM (background music).
SE volume
Change the volume of SE (sound effects).
You can check the actual SE volume by pressing the *Test* button.
Voice volume
Change the volume for voices.
You can also change the volume for voices per character by pressing the `Voices` button.
Note: With the voice patch the Master volume is removed to make place for the Voice volume.
Instant Effects
When set to ON, all the effects in the scenario are displayed instantaneously.
However, progressive effects such as vibration and shaking are produced normally.
Note: depending on the scene, an unintended display may occur.
Hide text when changing sprites
In this game there's an abundance of facial expressions for each character.
Whenever a character changes their expression the text is hidden during the transition.
Therefore, hiding the text window is performed frequently.
If you want to concentrate on the text you can turn off this feature.
Display special effects
There are several scenes in the game that use very computationally expensive effects.
In this case, older PCs might suffer from lack of performance,
which may be improved by turning OFF the display of the special effect.
Font switching
The default font used to display text is installed in your environment.
You can choose other fonts from the list.
(the settings will be reflected in the sample window, and confirmed when you press OK).
Changing the opacity of the message window background
You can change the background opacity of the message window in the range of 0 to 100%.
Mouse right-click setting
Normally the game menu is displayed with one right-click, but by changing the setting
you can hide the text window for the first right-click, and display the game menu for the second right-click.
Automatic movement of cursor
In the title screen or right-click menu, the game will automatically move the cursor
to the previously pressed button, etc.
If you do not wish for such a behavior, you may uncheck this option.
Note: settings in the config menu are not changed until you press the OK button.
The switches can be found at the menu bar of the game, placed at the top of the game's window (if you're playing in full-screen, press F10 or hover your mouse to the top of the screen to display it).
The switches are:
The following switches are under the Patch menu bar:
Censor
The following 3 options are mutually exclusive:
Note: Alt scene will be automatically unlocked when viewing the H scene (and vice versa). You do not need to view both the complete the game.
Also, you don't need to view the Eclipse H-scenes to complete the game in censored mode.
Voice
Vita Additions
Options
Why are some hanafuda routes unvoiced?
The voices for the hanafuda stories are from the PSP game adaptation. Some stories were added to the PC game in a later patch (patch2.xp3), which was released after said PSP game. Naturally, this means no voice acting exists for them.
Are there patches for any other languages?
Check the forum thread for a list of other languages.
Can I add my own language patch to the game?
Sure! The patch makes the game almost 100% localization ready. Just having the same file structure as the English patch and naming the patch something like: patchlangX.xp3 will automatically add support for your language. Please contact Quibi from Beast's Lair before starting such a project for enhanced support and assistance.
Are saves backward compatible?
Yes. Just be sure to use "Start" instead of "Continue" the very first time to avoid any conflicts from different patch versions. See note in the Android installation section about Android save files compatibility.
Where are my saves?
Located in a folder named fateha_savedata
(you are asked where to place this the first time you start the game). You can find the location you chose by looking in the config.ksc
file in your game folder, or select a new location by changing the location in the file or deleting it (in which case you will be prompted for a new location on game start).
Halp! I can't get 100%!
Everyone is able to get 100% on any play-through, no matter what you do. Getting locked out of 100% is impossible, though some design flaws have made certain scene difficult to find under certain conditions. If you feel stuck, check these common troublespots for scenes you haven't seen yet:
Eclipse scenes count toward your progress, but Hanafuda and Emas do not.
If these do not help, check your extras menu against this scene lookup and see which scene you are missing, then look at that date/location.
How do I stop this damn cursor from flying around to menu options?
In the Config menu, unselect "Move cursor on choice."
The game is lagging when running on Android...
If it's lagging for you (the text has a well known lagging problem) click the icon with the 3 lines on the top right on Kirikiroid2, then click Conv/ Dec XP3
. Changing the renderer to OpenGL might help too. If you convert the files make sure it's done when the Android patch files are already in there. The image.xp3
might have a problem that makes it get stuck at 5mb always. Converting will fail unless you move that file out then convert the rest of the files, then move it back in. Click mid-text also might make it lag, if that happens just raise the text speed so you don't have to click.
I get a crash when I go to look at the backlog.
If you recently updated your patch, you need to press "Start" to clear out the backlog and the old conflicting version text. Pressing "Continue" keeps the version from the prior patch in your recent history, and the two do not always get along.
I'm getting an
EAccessViolation
Try changing your DEP (Data Execution Prevention) settings to make sure it's enabled for essential windows services only.
I'm running the game from the setup folder and copy/pasted it to a new computer. Now Crash, boom.
If you put the save file in documents, it is still being directed to the pathname of your old computer (due to different usernames). Delete the config.ksc
file in your game directory, it will ask you for a save file location next time you start, select a location (move your old save files to this location if you want to use those - press cancel to make the location your game folder itself).
I initially started the game fine, now I'm getting error messages that say "messages" and/or "kag".
Try changing the location of your save folder. Delete the config.ksc
in your game folder and it will prompt you for a new location on game start.
I get a crash on game-start that says
syntax error, unexpected T_SYMBOL, expecting ")"
.
You might not be using the patches. Make sure the patches are located in your game folder (where FateFD.exe
is).
The game crashes on startup with a error in Japanese/question marks with
吉里吉里
in the titlebar.
You likely have a corrupted file. Try theses solutions:
1. Redownload the the patch.
2. Rename your fateHA_savedata
to fateHA_savadataOLD
(if it doesn't work, you may change the name back - if it does work, your savefile was corrupted).
3. reinstall the game.
I'm having difficulty installing the game.
Try using the No-Install Method discussed in the installation section.
Troubleshooting crashes
FateFD.exe.console.log
file located in the game's directory inside a spoiler tag or a pastebin link. There have been cases where a scene has its "NEW" flag removed, but the scene is not listed as viewed. This is usually from opening the scene then exiting. This guide will help you locate any missing scenes you have by checking it against your Extras/Scene Play menu. The scenes highlighted in red are the usual troublemakers, check those first.

The best way to collect all items is to grind the Big Bridge stage with several Servant/Master combinations using the Scene Select feature.
That stage has many random chests, and it's easy to pick on enemy Servants because they will have a very hard time getting past Gilgamesh unless you kill him yourself.
Once you have everything but the Die Lorelei exclusive items, start grinding that stage until you get the missing items, especially the elusive Holy Grail.
Don't worry about finishing the stage; even if you die/finish last/time runs out, the found items will be recorded. In Die Lorelei stage in particular, it's best to let the time run since random chests will pop up every now and then.
